Andrew Fisher Tomlin Awarded RHS Elizabeth Medal of Honour
Andrew Fisher Tomlin, co director of LCGD Australia and Director of Environmental Design at the London College of Garden Design, has been awarded the RHS Elizabeth Medal of Honour in recognition of his outstanding contribution to horticulture.
The medal, one of the highest honours in the field, is awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society to individuals who have made a significant impact on the science, art or practice of horticulture. In recognition of the length of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, only 70 medals are held at any one time.
Andrew received the award in the UK this week, following a visit to Australia where he was working with LCGD Australia and engaging with the local garden design community during the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
“I am deeply honoured to receive the RHS Elizabeth Medal of Honour,” Andrew said. “It has been the privilege of my life to contribute to a field that brings beauty, sustainability and joy to people and communities around the world.”
Over a career spanning more than 30 years, Andrew has played a leading role in shaping contemporary planting design. As a founding director of the London College of Garden Design, he established the Planting Design Diploma, championing a more considered and professional approach to planting within landscape design.
His work spans both private and public landscapes, with projects across the UK and internationally, and includes advisory roles on significant public realm projects such as Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Andrew’s influence extends strongly into Australia through LCGD Australia, where he works alongside Brent Reid to support and mentor the next generation of garden designers. His contribution has helped raise the standard of planting design education locally, connecting Australian practice with international thinking and expertise.
This recognition reflects not only Andrew’s individual contribution, but also the growing importance of planting design as a critical part of contemporary landscape practice.
